📌 V-REACH ’26 – An Alumni Engagement Initiative
Organized by Department of Computer Engineering, VESIT

Startup Interaction & Learning Series – Cohort II, organized by the Department of Computer Engineering, VESIT, in collaboration with Prakhar Innovations and CodeCell++ Tinkerers, and in association with VESIT Innovation and Incubation Cell (IIC) and IQAC.

The session, titled “MVP Building & Funding Opportunities,” will be conducted on 19 January 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in online mode. The initiative aims to provide students with practical, industry-driven insights into building scalable products and understanding early-stage startup funding.

The session will be delivered by Mr. Minhaj Shaikh, Founder and CEO of FriendsCampus, and a distinguished alumnus of VESIT. With over 14 years of experience in education and 6+ years in the EdTech ecosystem, Mr. Shaikh has been actively involved in mentoring students and building learner-focused platforms. His professional journey includes leadership roles at Acadza.com and STEPApp.ai, where he contributed to operations management and large-scale educational initiatives.

During the session, participants will gain exposure to the end-to-end process of conceptualizing, validating, and iterating a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). The discussion will also cover early-stage funding opportunities, strategies to pitch MVPs to users and investors, and common challenges faced by first-time founders, followed by an interactive question-and-answer segment.

The session is open to Second Year and Third Year students, and is mandatory for Build-a-thon Internship students. Selected participants may be considered for post-session mentorship or internship opportunities based on performance and engagement.

Department of Computer Engineering, VESIT in association with IQAC  is organizing Departmental Technology Day Pradarshan'22 on 28th March,2022 Monday.

In celebration of Hacktoberfest 2020 various sessions were organized in the Month of October to spread awareness about open-source contribution by guiding students through engaging and interactive sessions. Through these 2 to 3 hour sessions students were provided with invaluable knowledge of how they could contribute to the open-source community. We tried to clear the doubts of all students by creating a two-way rapport with them.

 

Since the college was closed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, all sessions were taken online using Google Meets.

 

The following seminars were conducted in the month of October:

 

1. Getting Started with Open Source and GitHub Workshop
2. GSOC Talk
3. Introduction to DevOps and Jenkins
4. Fundamentals of Linux

 

All sessions were sponsored by GitHub and Hacktoberfest. The college became a Hacktoberfest chapter in 2020 itself. This allowed students to enroll themselves in the chapter and make use of various benefits.

 

Each session was conducted over the weekends ensuring that no lectures clashed with the events. Some sessions were open only to the Computer Department whereas others were open to all departments. Following is a detailed report of all the events.

 

 

1. Getting Started with Open Source and GitHub Workshop

The first session was a workshop taken on 3rd October Saturday between 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The aim of the seminar was to inform the students about Open-Sources and the commencement of Hacktoberfest 2020. Along with this the students were also given a detailed go through of GitHub GUI and the basics of Git. The session was open to all departments. The speakers for the session were Jay Dulera and Rohan Ghosalkar (both CodeCell Members). Jay covered open source and Hacktoberfest along with providing the students with a detailed collection of repositories students can contribute to, whereas Rohan taught the basic workings of GitHub and the appropriate procedure to make pull requests on various repositories.

 

The workshop began at about 4:10 PM with around 91 participants where Jay introduced Open Source and how it is one of the most useful tools available for students who want to learn coding. This was followed by the functionality of GitHub and how it came to be which was taken by Rohan. Students were shown how to initialize repositories, how to make Pull Requests, how to fork repositories and also how to use GitHub desktop. This was followed by Jay who introduced students to Hacktoberfest and the rules and regulations of the competition. The end of the session saw a small online quiz on Kahoot and finally the meeting came to end at 6:00 PM.

Greetings VESitians,

CodeCell Tinker's from the Computer Department is back with another exciting course on Full Stack Web Development Using Django and React.

 

The course will be conducted in collaboration with Institute Innovation Cell (IIC) and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The participants will get to learn about Django and React from curated modules which will be taught by the students of our own college. The courses are only available for faculty and students of the Computer Engineering Department in 2nd and 3rd year (in 2020-21).

 

Course I : Django 

The Django course will be taken by Amit Chhabria and Arnav Bagchi. Students will be able to learn how to Start a project, Connecting databases with MySQL, Login using Google authentication and much more.

Course II : React

The most talked about thing the in the world of technology is how computers can be smarter than humans. This is where Machine Learning comes into play. To teach their students how to use Machine Learning in order to solve day to day problems VESIT in collaboration with Infispark (Ms. Osheen Chavhan) conducted a two day workshop on Azure Machine Learning. This workshop kicked off on 10AM with introduction to Azure. How Azure aids to reduce the tedious code writing into simple drag and drop procedures. The students were assigned a few credits to provide an hands-on experience. In the later part of the day, the students used azure to create SQL Database and were taught how to upload and host their own websites. Last but not the least the students were introduced to various API's(Application Programming Interface) of Azure and how complex tasks like Computer Vision could be done with just a few clicks. The second day was the most exciting part of workshop . The students were taught how to predict the solution of a particular problem statement and how to improve the accuracy using Azure Machine Learning Studio. The students were the provided with a raw dataset and had a task to predict the outcome. A particular student was able to predict the outcome with 0.89 accuracy.In the last segment the students were provided with some guidance about the various options available and how to pursue them. The second and the last day ended with a short Q&A and light snacks. The student feedback was very good. “Now we can complete our projects with much more efficiency and in shorter time. And visualize datasets very easily” A students review.

Placement Activities Conducted for Academic Year 2019-20

The various campus readiness activities conducted/organized are as follows:

• Seminars /Sessions/Expert Lectures:

These inhouse sessions help students to prepare themselves to face the campus interviews. These sessions make students ready in terms of resume writing and developing the interview skills. The sessions cover the topics as Eligibility, Employability and resume building, Resume writing and skill set analysis, Transaction analysis and Steering interviews.

• Senior Junior Interaction:

These interaction sessions are conducted by the final year placed students to pre-final year students. The session gives in details about the company profile, eligibility criteria, package, the process details and preparation guidelines. The placed students share their experience for the campus process which would help the students to prepare for a particular company in a better way. 

• Finishing School:

Under this activity the revision of important subjects required for placements is being done.   

• Aptitude Tests

These comprises various tests under category quantitative analysis, verbal ability and logical reasoning. These tests help to assess the competency level of a student for a perticular task.  

• Technical Tests

These tests help students to evaluate themselves for their technical knowledge for the subject.  

Pradarshini is a platform and one of the best practices of the Computer Engineering department in which the Third year (TE) and the Final year (BE)  students exhibit the project work. This year the Computer department  brought Pradarshini in its online Avatar called e-Pradarshini 2020 , in association with VESIT- IIC,  showcasing 114 projects, 86 research papers and 36 awards won by T.E and B.E students collectively.

V-REACH ‘20 : An Alumni Engagement Initiative

“V-REACH”, VESIT-Alumni engagement initiative, which aims at reaching out to alumni and enables sharing of their vast National and International knowledge and experience with students for widening their horizon.It also allows alumni to play an active role as a stakeholder and contribute actively in building VESIT legacy. 

 

• Rise of Fintech in Era of Programmable Networks

    The rise and software-driven transformation of Fintech have been remarkably aided by cloudification and mobile penetration at every level. The session encompassed an in-depth overview of Financial Technology along with the upcoming potential disruptions such as 5G, Blockchain and IOT that will completely change the way we look at Fintech today. A brief discussion on various examples of Fintechs already in place helped put things in perspective and the session finally concluded towards the unfathomable scope these technologies possess if approached correctly.

 

• Opportunities for Women : Research, Entrepreneurships, Armed Forces

The webinar highlighted opportunities that women may find in the fields of Research, Entrepreneurship and Armed Forces. The speakers beautifully put together all the resources that would help any female students to build themselves in these careers. A few highlights of discussion includes guidance about  research paper publishcation  in conferences, organizations which offer stem courses. The speakers  explained about how to connect with incubators and accelerators, how to pitch the idea to an investor. The very significant part of the discussion was  how to prepare for armed forces and what qualities one  should work on while pursuing a career in defensed 
 

• How to reach the Big 4 : Amazon, Facebook, Google, Microsoft

At the forefront of every technological breakthrough are giants like Amazon, Facebook, Google and Microsoft It is the dream of every person in the IT sector to be at the core of the change that these firms bring. The session covered the different aspects of a resume that one  needs to focus on while applying for a job in big IT firms like Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook. It also guided the  different ways in which the applicant can improve on these aspects and stand out among all. It provides the perspective of a person who is on the other side of the recruitment desk and what are the things they look for in potential candidates. The session also talked about the different  steps the panelists took in order to reach their current position which serves as a guide for students trying to get a job in these firms. The speakers shared their experiences and journey to reach these big firms and professional work culture in the IT sector. 

1) Session on ‘Kick start with machine Learning

The event was  a seminar on ‘Kickstart into ML’ for second year students. It was conducted by Mr. Ali Mustafa Shaikh who is currently an Intel Software Innovator, Lead Ambassador IEEE Collabratec,Google Certified Educator level one and level two and organizer of  Tensorflow UserGroup Mumbai . The event was organized by Codecell, the faculty coordinators were Richard J. and Priya R. L. and coordinated by Tina Chandwani and Sujitkumar Singh. The event was conducted on 26th February 2020.The total number of attendees were 91.

2) Syrus Hackathon 2020

Syrus Hackathon 2020 was organized by the CodeCell Tinkerer's of Computer Department, Vivekanand Education Society's Institute of Technology (VESIT) for Computer Department students. It was a 34 hrs online hackathon conducted on 5th March 2020 to 6th March 2020. It was sponsored by GitHub. Our alumni Mr. Sanjay Udasi and Mr. Avinash Dangwani, VES Polytechnic judged the competition. Top three teams were felicitated by our judges.

3) WeTech Ideathon 2020

WeTech Ideathon 2020 was organized by the CodeCell Tinkerer's of Computer Department Vivekanand Education Society's Institute of Technology (VESIT) in association with the Women's Development Cell (WDC) sponsored by Guithub, for girl students. The Grand Finale was conducted on 11th March 2020. We were honored to have our own alumni as judges for this event who awarded top three teams for their innovative work.

All the events were successfully coordinated by Mr. Prashant Kanade (CodeCell Incharge) along with faculty coordinator Mr. Richard Joseph and Mrs. Priya R. L. under the guidance of Dr. Mrs. Nupur Giri (HOD, Dept. of Computer Engineering) with the help of CodeCell Senior and Junior Committee members.

4) Online workshops during lockdown in association with IIC

Online series of workshops was arranged for all the students and faculties of the institute from 21st -30th April 2020. These workshops introduced important domains that would improve the skill set and help in developing the expertise of the registered members.

5) Google Cloud Study jams: Google cloud and Google assistant development workshop:

This event was conducted on 4th October 2019 for COMPS - second | third year, IT and MCA department. Approximately 100 students participated. A Standalone project on Google actions was completed successfully. Fundamentals of Google Cloud (qwiklabs) were also thought. Different rewards were provided to participants. The Computer department organized  a Technical Paper Contest, BuzzPro'19 for the Third Year students of Computer Engineering.  This was an opportunity for third year students for exploring, investigating, analyzing and above all enjoy the experience of writing a technical paper. Also, BuzzPro created a platform for their future endeavors and thus enabling them in publishing research papers.

The IoT workshop for 30 Hrs.  during August to Oct 2019 was conducted for 2nd year CMPN  students. Approximately 80 students participated in the workshop . The workshop was coordinated by Prof. Richard Joseph and conducted by Mrs.Mansi Talreja , Mrs.Richa Sharma, Mrs.Veena Trivedi , Ms. Rohini Sawant , Mrs.Suvarna Bhatsangave.

1) SYRUS  (Github - The title sponsor by Mr. Manas Mangaonkar, student Microsoft partner) :

Code Cell conducted Syrus hackathon which was focused on promoting innovation, diversity and networking among all future hackers. Upcoming engineers and developers were hosted for an intense 24-hour session. Participants were able to gain hands-on knowledge of the present trends and quite possibly set new ones themselves. Problem statements were mainly focused on social issues and transformation with the help of ICT and technology. The event was judged by Mr. Harsh Gupta (Alumni - 2017 Batch), Ms. Padmaja Kole (Alumni - 2017 Batch), Mr. Ali Mustafa (Google Crowdsource India | Co-organizer Google Cloud DevC Mumbai | Google MLCC Facilitator | Educator), Mr. Nandan Doddihal (Alumni - 2016 Batch), Mr. Parag Shah (Alumni - 2006 Batch), Mr. Ali Mustafa (Google Crowdsource India | Co-organizer Google Cloud DevC Mumbai | Google MLCC Facilitator | Educator).  Total 10 teams out of 49 were shortlisted for finals and the winning teams were as follows:

Workshop on R and Python

Department of Computer Engineering initiated "CoDe cELL"(Tinker's Cell) to give a platform for the students to create Programming Attitude and motivate for Skill Set under the guidance of  Prof. Prashant Kanade and Prof. Priya R. L. Total 20 hours hands on workshop on "Star Python Certification"  in the field of data science has been conducted by Ms. Mukesh Yadav and Mr. Richard Joseph during 19th Feb 2018 to 28th Feb 2018 with participation of 87 students from the department. The objective behind this particular course is to bridge the gap of the course Python for the Third Year Students of Computer Engineering, as the course was never offered to them by the University of Mumbai. This is the first activity conducted under Tinker Cell.

 

Workshop on Internet of Things (IOT) using Arduino

21 Students attended the six days workshop organized on “Internet of Things(IOT) using Arduino” from July 03-08, 2017 in collaboration with Revert Technology Pvt. Ltd. & Finland Labs in association with EDC - IIT Roorkee.Workshop session was taken by Mr. Bipul Kumar from Finland Labs.

 

Workshop on Machine Learning using Azure XML Studio and Cognitive Services

33 students of third year along with Dr. Gresha Bhatia,Prof. Vidya Zope and Prof. Abha Tewari attended a workshop on Machine Learning using Azure XML Studio and Cognitive Services, conducted by Mr. Chaitanya Verma and Mr. Mahendra Prasad Dubey Microsoft Ltd, Kalina campus, Mumbai on 14th of October 2017.

Technology Day was conducted in Computer Engineering Department on 20 March 2018, where events such as BE Project Exhibition, spRdh,Technical Paper Contest - Buzzpro`2018, App Launch, Mini Hackathon, Code-A-Thon etc. are organized for students of BE, TE and SE, CMPN. The events are judged by external and internal department faculty and 220 participants showcased their ideas. Placement Activities Conducted for Academic Year 2017-18

The various campus readiness activities conducted/organized are as follows:

• Seminars /Sessions/Expert Lectures:

These inhouse sessions help students to prepare themselves to face the campus interviews. These sessions make students ready in terms of resume writing and developing the interview skills. The sessions cover the topics as Eligibility, Employability and resume building, Resume writing and skill set analysis, Transaction analysis and Steering interviews.

 

• Senior Junior Interaction:

These interaction sessions are conducted by the final year placed students to pre-final year students. The session gives in details about the company profile, eligibility criteria, package, the process details and preparation guidelines. The placed students share their experience for the campus process which would help the students to prepare for a particular company in a better way. 

 

• Alumni Interaction:

Under this activity the alumni interact with the pre final year students. They share their experience of preparation for a particular company and explain the process details. They give an idea about the work experience and domain in which they currently work. 

• Aptitude Tests

These comprises various tests under category quantitative analysis, verbal ability and logical reasoning. These tests help to assess the competency level of a student for a perticular task.
