The Department of Information Technology is organizing an Orientation Program on Community Engagement Projects for Second Year IT students, aimed at introducing the importance of socially relevant, field-based learning.

This orientation will familiarize students with the concept, objectives, and scope of community engagement projects, where technology is applied to address real-world problems in society. Students will gain clarity on how IT solutions can support local communities, government bodies, NGOs, educational institutions, healthcare centers, and small enterprises.

The session will cover:

• Purpose and outcomes of community engagement projects

• Identifying real-life problems through field visits and observations

• Role of IT in solving societal challenges

• Project guidelines, expectations, and evaluation process

• Teamwork, ethics, and professional responsibility

Through this initiative, students are encouraged to develop social awareness, problem-solving skills, innovation, and empathy, while strengthening their ability to design practical IT solutions with real impact.

This orientation marks the first step in shaping students into responsible technologists and socially conscious engineers, aligning academic learning with community needs.

“GENESIS Hackathon 2026”, organized by the QuestIT Cell, scheduled to be held on 6th and 7th February 2026 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the Library, Room No. B51, and Room No. B52.

The hackathon is a two-day technical event focused on innovation and problem-solving, where participants will build and present solutions across various technology domains.

About the Program 

Blockchain is now the fastest-growing skill set demanded on job sites and salaries for blockchain developers 50-100% higher than regular developer jobs. The decentralized nature of projects with distributed teams can translate into lakhs of high-paying jobs from all over the world being available to Indian developers. With its strong IT ecosystem, India can become a leading blockchain development hub and a major net beneficiary of global capital inflows. Decentralized applications on public blockchains can solve myriad Indian problems, such as eliminating middlemen, providing data security, reducing corruption and tampering of financial ledgers, and improving the speed of service delivery by governments and corporations.

• This is a comprehensive series of workshops on Blockchain that will start from Fundamentals to developing real-life Applications using Blockchain. 

On behalf of Mumbai university, the Department organized a Convocation ceremony for the Information Technology students passed out batch 2018-19 on 1st and 15th February 2020. The degree distribution ceremony was done in two phases. In the first phase Department toppers along with other branch toppers.  Dr. Sameer Kulkarni, Director, Innovation, Incubation and Linkages, National Center for Nano-Science and NanoTechnology, University of Mumbai was the  chief guest for the event. The Guest of Honour was Mrs. Suprita Mitta, Senior Engineer, Instrumentation Department of NPCC Engineering Pvt. Ltd.  Total 10 students have registered for the ceremony and received the degree certificate during the ceremony.
On the 15th February 2020 the convocation ceremony was organized for other students. Chief Guest for the program was Mr. Mayank Kothari, Founder and CEO of “ATTO Infotech”.  He is also an alumni of IT Department and passed out student of batch 2009. Total 48 students have registered for the ceremony and received the degree certificate during the ceremony.
 

On 20th Jan 2020 a  Project Exhibition was organised to showcase the projects developed by the students of the Department. Mr. Vikas and Mr. Sanket Parab from Blockolgy, reviewed and gave their valuable feedback. VESIT has signed an MOU with Blocklogy to give students exposure to latest and creative projects. 

Cloudera – VESIT Collaboration for “Developing with Spark and Hadoop” training was conducted from 17th September 2019 to 1st February 2020. The course included topics on basics of Hadoop, its ecosystem, and components and MapReduce. The lab was conducted on the Virtual machine provided by Cloudera. The session was conducted by Dr. M. Vijayalakshmi, Mrs. Asha Bharambe and Mrs. Jayshree Hajgude. And the course was attended by third year students of the department.
 

“e-Disha“, a Two Week technical event was organized by the Department of Information Technology, VESIT in association with VESIT-IQAC and IIC  from 15th  July 2020 to30th July 2020. Our technical event e-Disha started on 15th July. e-Disha consisted of various activities.

The event started with a series of webinars which were open for all branches of VESIT..

The first webinar was on ‘Placement / Job search’ by our alumni Ms. Nidhi Shah who is currently working as a software developer at Amazon web services. This webinar focused on Tips and Tricks to crack the job search.

On 16th July we had a  webinar  on ‘ Competitive Programming. How to Handle’ by Mr. Shaurya  Gupta who is currently working at Juspay.

This webinar guided the audience on What is competitive coding, how to prepare for it, learning resources, practice resources, When to start giving the contests, What are the different prestigious coding competitions etc.

On 17th July we had a third webinar on ‘Building Scalable Cloud Services Using Docker’  by our alumni Sangeetha Krishnan who is currently working as a computer scientist at Adobe. In this webinar she demonstrated  how to make and deploy the  applications using docker.

On 20th July, we had a forth webinar on ‘Human Centered Design Research for Technology in Health’ by our alumni Ms. Arpita Bhattacharya who is currently a PhD student at University of Washington.. This webinar focused on using HCD methods for designing for remote care to support teenagers with stress and depression management.

On 21st July we had a fifth webinar on ‘Recommendation Systems using AI’ by Visha Israni. A S/W Engineer at J.P. Morgan Chase and Co.This webinar explained the working of recommendation systems and how industry giants like Youtube, Netflix provides the users with the personal catalogue of content which makes them more reimitting for us.

 On 22nd July we had 6th and the last  webinar on ‘Professional Career Opportunities After BE’  by Mr. Manish Jha ,Director of SQUAD Infotech Private LTD. This webinar was about what are the different opportunities after graduation. This webinar provided a breakthrough to the students to pursue their dreams.

The webinars were well appreciated by the viewer from students and faculty of the IT department as well as from other departments of VESIT.

the Webinar series was followed by Quizzes . Two quizzes were conducted for the students of the dept of Information Technology,First quiz on Python was conducted on 23rd July and the second quiz on C was conducted on 24th July. We had a large no. of student participation in both the quizzes.

On 27th July ,a technical Paper Writing competition was scheduled. However due to the request from final year students who are currently busy with their placements, this event has been postponed till further notice. The deadline for the paper submission has been extended to  8th August 2020.

We had scheduled the activity “Presentation mastery” On 28th . But due to some unavoidable circumstances, we clubbed  this event with “e-Exhibition” activity scheduled on 30th July. The selected videos of this event were exhibited to all the students and faculties. 

The second last activity on Android application development was scheduled On 29th July. The judges presented their views and remarks on the projects to the participants through the google meet. 

On 30th July  e-Disha technical event ended with the “Project e-Exhibition” and “Presentation Mastery” activities  and the valedictory speech.
